An Eastern Cape Police Sergeant will spend 10 years behind bars for murder and attempted murder incidents that took place in June 2024 and October 2015. 

35-year-old Sergeant Monelisi William Nosasa is already serving six years for murder committed in 2015 and the same Nqgeleni District Court sentenced him on 17 March 2026, to 4 years for murder and attempted murder committed in 2024. 

Regarding the latest incident, it is alleged that on 16 June 2024, Sergeant Nosasa took a marked police vehicle without permission and drove to Ngqeleni, in the Mthatha area where he bumped into two female pedestrians. One pedestrian died at the scene, and the other was hospitalised after sustaining serious injuries. Sergeant Nosasa allegedly fled the scene after the incident but was later arrested later. 

Seargent Nosasa, who is a court orderly at the Tsolo Magistrate Court was also sentenced in January 2026 for beating 19-year-old Silindokuhle Bango to death in October 2015 after he accused him of stealing his television set. 

Both sentences will not run concurrently as per the court order.
