The case against a police Constable accused of killing a Free State medical doctor on Sunday, 01 March 2026, was postponed to 13 March 2026 for a formal bail application. Constable Paseka Malakoane (35) is accused of murder of Dr. Gape Moroe (58).

It is alleged that Constable Malakoane and Dr. Moroe were residing at the same flat that was rented by Dr. Moroe, and on the day of the incident, Dr. Moroe had invited his four friends for a social gathering while Constable Malakoane was at work.

Constable Malakoane came to the flat at around 23:40, and he had a confrontation with Dr. Moroe when he demanded his visitors to leave. Dr. Moroe allegedly reminded Constable Malakoane that he was the main tenant at the property.

The situation escalated, and Constable Malakoane allegedly threatened Dr. Moroe with a firearm. He allegedly put a firearm on Dr. Moroe’s forehead and fired a shot. Dr. Moroe died instantly from a gunshot wound.

Constable Malakoane then forced the four visitors into Dr. Moroe's car and ordered one of them to drive to Bethlehem. From Bethlehem, they allegedly drove to Kroonstad and stopped at the river. He allegedly ordered them to jump into the river and threatened them by firing several shots.

He was arrested by the police in Kroonstad on Tuesday and the case was handed to IPID for investigation.

He appeared in Harrismith Magistrate's Court, and the case was postponed to 13 March 2026 for a formal bail application.
