Police officer accused of raping TUT student granted bail

A Free State police Constable arrested for the alleged rape of a 23-year-old tertiary student has been granted bail of R1500 by the Bethlehem Magistrate’s Court.

The 25-year-old Constable stationed at Bethlehem Crime Prevention Unit allegedly raped the complainant on Saturday, 22 February 2026.

It is alleged that the Constable picked up the complainant at her residence and went with her to a park in Morelig Park. He allegedly asked her to sleep with him, but she refused. He then drove with her to a local graveyard where he allegedly raped her.

The case was opened the same day, and the Constable was arrested and charged for rape. The court granted him bail of R1500.

The case was postponed to 25 April 2026 for further investigation.
