Westernberg Police Constable arrested for murder and robbery with aggravation
The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) has arrested a 33 years old police constable stationed at Westernberg police station, Limpopo Province.
It is alleged that on the 24 February 2014, at about 22:00 there was a business robbery in Hlanganani Village, the shop owner was subsequently shot by unknown suspect, and he was rushed to hospital, where he later passed away. Police collected exhibits at the scene and sent them for examination, the outcome pointed to a police firearm.
The case was referred to IPID for investigation and investigations was completed the docket was submitted to DPP for decision .The DPP decided to prosecute the police officer whose fire arm was linked to the incident.
On 2016-08-19 a Warrant of arrest was issued at Waterval Magistrates court in the Giyani area and it was executed the same day. The suspect stationed at the Uniform Branch in Westernberg SAPS appeared in the Hlanganani periodic court and the case was remanded to the 29 August 2016 for formal bail application.
