Two off duty Police Constables shot and wounded a 29 year old male in a tavern

The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) is investigating an attempted murder case involving two police Constables stationed at Morokweng Police Station in North West Province.

It is alleged that on 27 August 2016, around 16:20, an off duty police Constable received a call from his friend who was in a fight at a local tavern. The officer went to the tavern accompanied by his colleague in order to help a friend out. On their arrival at the tavern they got off their vehicle and started shooting randomly. One of the bullets hit a passer-by. According to the IPID preliminary investigation, twelve shots were fired by the first suspect and two by his colleague.

The two suspects were charged on Sunday 2016/08/28 and they appeared for the first time at Coligny Magistrates Court on 2016/08/29. They were released on warning.

An investigation still proceeds the case is remanded to 2016/11/08 for further Investigation.
