Two Constables to appear in Court for KwaDabeka assault GBH

Two Constables were arrested by the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) for the alleged assault of two people. The suspect police officers, who are based at the Shongweni K9 Unit in KwaZulu-Natal, are aged 30 and 37 years old respectively.

It is alleged that the policemen arrested and assaulted two men who were in a car together after stopping them and searching their vehicle on 20 April 2017. The assault occurred on a number of occasions over a period of days. The suspects also set their dogs on the victims.

After identifying the suspect police officers, the IPID obtained enough evidence to arrest the suspects.

The two Constables will appear at the Pinetown Magistrates Court on 02 June 2017 on a charge of assault GBH.

The IPID is also investigating a case of intimidation and corruption against the Constables. It is alleged that the policemen went to one of the victims and told him to withdraw the assault case against them within 3 days, failing which he would be killed. The corruption relates to a demand of ten thousand rand (R10 000)made from the brother of one of the victims. These investigations are ongoing.
