Sasolburg SAPS Detective Warrant Officer Arrested for Attempted Murder

The Independent Complaints Directorate (ICD) has arrested a 43 year old SAPS Detective Warrant Officer for attempted murder. The suspect, Amos Mlangeni of Sasolburg SAPS is alleged to have shot and critically wounded his wife, Ntombizodwa Mlangeni (39) at their marital home at about 00:05 of 19 February 2012.

The policeman allegedly shot his wife twice on the head with his service pistol soon after she returned home with their four-year old daughter. It is not yet clear what provoked the shooting. After shooting his wife Warrant Officer Mlangeni allegedly went out to his neighbours to request assistance with the transportation of his injured wife to the hospital. The victim was then taken to Medi-Clinic in Vereeniging where she is currently receiving medical attention.

The ICD was notified and started investigation. This investigation resulted in the arrest of the policeman. He appeared at the Sasolburg Magistrate Court today, 21 February 2012. The case was postponed to tomorrow, 22 February 2012 for a bail application.
