SAPS members to appear in court for kidnapping and extortion in Roodepoort
The court case of the 2 Dobsonville Police Officers arrested for kidnapping, extortion and possession of stolen goods has been remanded to 01 March 2023, for formal bail application.
The officers allegedly tried to extort money from a Springs resident. It is alleged that the four Dobsonville SAPS members conducted a search on 17 February 2023, at a Springs home and confiscated money to the value of R35 000, gold, measuring scales and 25 litres of acidic mercury.
They are facing charges of kidnapping, corruption and extortion, theft, possession of stolen goods and defeating the ends of justice. IPID will oppose bail.
The two officers are detained at the Roodepoort SAPS while the other two officers are still at large.
