SAPS Constable facing a charge of attempted murder - Olivenhoutbosch CAS 77/07/2014

The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) is investigating a case of attempted murder against a police constable from Olivenhoutbosch, Gauteng.

The allegations are that the police constable was driving his vehicle when it got involved in an accident with another vehicle driven by a woman on 05 July 2014 in Olivenhoutbosch. The woman apparently accepted that she was at fault. Subsequent to her concession both parties agreed that the woman would be liable to fix the damage to the policeman’s vehicle.

It is alleged that on 06 July 2014, the woman and her brother-in-law went to the policeman’s place of residence. It is alleged that an argument ensued when the woman’s brother-in-law started asking the policeman questions about how the accident occurred.

It is alleged that the suspect policeman picked-up a brick and assaulted the woman’s brother-in-law on the head. A fight ensued after which the suspect ran into the house to fetch his service pistol. He apparently fired shots towards the woman’s brother-in-law.

The policeman was later arrested by the police from SAPS Olivenhoutbosch. Empty cartridge cases and a Z88 pistol were seized. He appeared in court today, 08 July 2014 at the Pretoria Magistrates Court on a charge of attempted murder and was granted bail of R1000-00. The matter is postponed to 23 July 2014.

The investigation continues.
