Roodepoort Captain and Civilian in court for attempted murder
Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) investigators arrested a police Captain from the Tactical Reaction Task (TRT) team and a civilian for attempted murder on 22 August 2018. The duo appeared at the Roodepoort Magistrates' Court on 22 August 2018 and were granted bail of one thousand rand (R1000) each. The case was remanded to 17 September 2018.
They were arrested for a December 2016 shooting incident in which a complainant was shot on the leg. The policeman had alleged that the complainant had tried to rob him of his official firearm and that a shot had gone off accidentally. The investigation found that the policeman had lied about the circumstances of the shooting and that he was not even on duty. The civilian was helping the policeman to collect a debt from the victim.
