A Police Officer appeared in court for murder
A police officer arrested by IPID, appeared at the Johannesburg magistrate court on 24 June 2022 on a murder charge.
The 54-year-old officer was arrested for a murder that occurred on the 31st of August 2018 at about 20:30pm.
The suspect alleges that back in August 2018 when he arrived home back from work, he found his four-year-old grandchild alongside his wife, who was having a drink and he joined in.
The suspect further alleges that while with his wife, he received a call that needed him to leave and rush somewhere. As he was packing his bag in the boot of his car, he noticed his wife approaching him with a knife attempting to stab him but managed to grab the knife and threw it on the ground. He then alleges that the wife grabbed his firearm which resulted in an altercation that led to the gun going off, hitting the wife on her lower right side of the ear.
Unfortunately, the wife was declared dead on scene by paramedics. IPID officials attended the scene for the necessary investigation and a report was submitted to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for a decision.
The DPP decided that the suspect should be prosecuted for Murder at the High Court.
