Police Constable arrested for rape in Worcester – Western Cape
The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) has arrested yet another policeman for rape in Worcester. The suspect in this case is a 28 year old Constable based at Touwsriver SAPS. The suspect will appear at Worcester Magistrates Court on 22 July 2013.
The complainant alleges that on 20 July 2013 at about 03h00 in the morning, she was allegedly raped by the suspect inside a marked SAPS vehicle. The suspect, who was on duty, allegedly parked the state vehicle at the back of a school, inside the school premises. He allegedly also threatened to shoot the victim with his official firearm and raped her inside the police vehicle.
The victim was taken in the police vehicle under the guise of being arrested for riotous behavior. But instead of arresting her and taking the victim to the police station, she was allegedly raped and thereafter taken home. The victim immediately reported the incident to the SAPS.
The IPID was immediately notified by SAPS on 20 July 2013 after the complainant opened the case at the police station. An investigation was conducted and the suspect was arrested on the same day.
He will appear on 22 July 2013 at the Worcester Magistrates Court on a charge of rape.
The investigation continues.
