Police Captain arrested for rape in Worcester – Western Cape
The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) has arrested a 46 year old Captain who is based at Worcester SAPS. The arrest took place on 18 July 2013.
The complainant alleges that on 20 June 2013 at about 23h30 she was raped by the suspect who was driving marked SAPS vehicle while he was on duty. The victim was raped inside the SAPS vehicle. The suspect allegedly threatened to shoot the victim and her son if she reported the matter to anyone, which resulted in her not reporting immediately after the incident.
The IPID was notified by SAPS on 18 July 2013 immediately after the complainant opened the case at the police station. The IPID conducted an investigation and decided to arrest the suspect on the same day based on the evidence uncovered.
The suspect, who is detained at Paarl-East SAPS, will appear on 22 July 2013 in the Worcester Magistrates Court on a charge of rape.
The investigation continues.
