Montclair Warrant Officer to appear in court for rape of 15 year old
The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) has arrested a 49 year old Warrant Officer for the alleged rape of a 15 year old. The suspect is stationed at Montclair Police Station.
It is alleged that between 2015 and May 2016 the complainant, who is 15 now years old and was staying at Ethelbert Children’s Home in Durban, was sexually abused by the suspect, whom she considered her uncle. It is alleged that the suspect and his wife were introduced to the complainant who then started visiting them on a regular basis – spending holidays, including Christmas, with them. It is alleged that it was during these visits that the complainant was raped and sexually assaulted by the suspect on numerous occasions.
The matter was reported to IPID and after conducting an investigation, the suspect was arrested after the Director of Public Prosecutions issued a warrant of arrest. The suspect was charged and detained at Durban Central Police Station. He will appear at Durban Magistrates Court on 23 February 2017 on rape and sexual assault charges.
