Metro Police Constable Arrested for Rape in Cape Town, Western Cape
The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) is investigating a rape case involving 33 year old Constable Adnaan Brinks who is based at Cape Town Metro Police (Hillstar) in the Western Cape.
It is alleged that on 30 April 2012 the 23 year old victim and her boyfriend went clubbing until the early hours of 01 May 2012. In that process, they both had a few drinks and at about 03:30 the boyfriend (who is the suspect) wanted to go home. The couple went to his residence in Mitchell’s Plain.
The victim alleges that the suspect hit her on her head until she fainted and came to when she felt water on her face. When she woke up her boyfriend was busy raping her. Apparently he beat her whilst he was raping her. She managed to get away and got assistance from the suspect’s brother. The victim then called the police for assistance.
A criminal case of rape and assault common was opened and is under investigation. The accused handed himself over to the police on 01 May 2012 and was detained.
IPID was notified on 01 May 2012 about the incident and it has taken over investigation of the case. The suspect was charged on 02 May 2012 and appeared at the Mitchell’s Plain Magistrates Court on 03 May 2012. He is out on bail.
