JMPD police officer arrested for rape in Protea , Gauteng
A Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) Police Officer was arrested on 23 January 2014 for rape. The suspect was arrested at the scene by his colleagues.
It is alleged that on 22 January 2014 the complainant was at a friend’s place of residence. One of her friend’s friends arrived with the suspect. The suspect suggested that they go to his place of residence – which they did. It is alleged that after some time, the complainant’s friend left the complainant with the suspect. The suspect allegedly used drugs in front of the complainant. After which he raped her using a condom. It is alleged that the suspect assaulted the complainant and prevented her from leaving – he allegedly raped her several times.
The complainant managed to escape on 23 January 2014 after the suspect fell asleep and alerted a passing metro police car. She told the police what had happened to her and she took them to the scene and pointed out the suspect. The suspect was arrested at the scene of crime.
The IPID has taken over the investigation. The suspect will appear at the Protea Magistrates Court on 27 January 2014, facing a charge of rape.
