IPID secured a conviction of rape on a bishop lavis case.
The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) in the Western Cape has secured a conviction against a member of SAPS Crime Intelligence in the Western Cape Province
On the 9th of August 2017 at approximately 16:00, the 38-year-old victim is said to have been raped by her former Boyfriend a 45-year-old Sergeant Quinton Charles Hendricks. According to the victim, the Accused accosted her in her room and forced himself on her. He pinned her down on her bed shoved his fingers in the vagina while rubbing his penis against her thighs until he ejaculated.
The victim reported her ordeal to the police after a few days as she was still traumatized. The Rape case was taken over by IPID for further investigation. At the conclusion of investigation, the case docket was referred to the Director of Public Prosecutions for decision. The DPP decided to prosecute the Accused for Rape and he was issued with summonses that secured him in court for proceedings that culminated in him being convicted of Rape on the 17th of October 2023 in the Parow Regional Court.
The court proceedings have been remanded to the 9 th of November 2023 in the same Parow Regional court for sentencing.
