IPID investigating shooting of woman and her daughter in Lenasia
The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) is investigating the shooting of two females Lenasia, Gauteng. The one female is the mother and the other is her daughter. The elderly female died from her wounds.
It is alleged that on the 27 November 2016 at about 01:04 there was a bridal shower at a house in Azalea Street, Lenasia South. A fight broke out between two men, Mr Pillay of the same house, and another man. Members of CPF noticed what was happening and contacted the police. The man, his mother, his sister and two of his cousins then drove out to buy food.
Upon their return, the man he had fought with, pointed him out to the police. The police tried to stop him, but he drove away. Police then gave chase and shots were fired towards the vehicle.
Mr Pillay's mother was shot through the head and his sister was shot in the leg. Mr Pillay drove to Lenmend Hospital. Upon arrival, his mother was declared dead. The sister was admitted for treatment. No firearm was recovered from the occupants of the car.
It emerged later that Mr Pillay’s father is the one who was shooting in his yard when the police were called. His firearm was confiscated and taken to ballistics testing.
The police officials involved are all from Lenasia South SAPS. Their firearms also were taken to ballistics testing.
The Post Mortem was conducted at Diepkloof Mortuary today.
A case of murder and attempted murder has been opened.
No arrest has been made. The investigation continues.
