IPID investigating the shooting of a 22 year old man in Sebokeng
The Independent Police Investigative Directorate is investigating the shooting of 22 year old Moeketsi Mafube in Sebokeng, Gauteng.
It is alleged that on 03 July 2013 at 02:00, members of Sharpville SAPS were driving along Frikkie Meyer Street in Sasolburg, doing crime prevention duties, when they spotted a Silver Tazz. They tried to stop the car using the siren and the driver pulled over and parked on the side of the road, they also parked behind him. It is alleged that when the police officers approach the Tazz, the driver pulled off and drove towards Sebokeng. The police allege that they gave chase and also asked for backup. It is alleged that six police officers shot at deceased’s car. The deceased apparently lost control and ended up at a nearby Engen garage.
The IPID was informed and we sent our investigators to the scene to conduct an investigation. The deceased was found with two wounds, one on his neck and the other on the right side of his head. The deceased was searched and no firearm was found on him.
The case docket of murder was opened. No arrest has been made. The investigation continues.
