IPID investigating Postmasburg shooting – Northern Cape

The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) is investigating the death of a man as a result of police action in Posmasburg, Groenwater in the Northern Cape.

It is alleged that on 03 August 2013, two policemen shot and killed a man who had attacked the police with a knife. According to the police report, one member was stabbed, which resulted in his police uniform being damaged. An ambulance was called and paramedics declared the man dead. After the crime scene was investigated by LCRC the body was removed from the scene by Kuruman Pathology Services.

The policemen also alleged that they could not stay at the scene because the community was angry and attacked the police who had to run away.

No arrest has been made. The investigation continues.
