IPID is investigating a Piketburg Police Officer in the Western Cape for murder and attempted murder.
It is alleged that the accused shot and killed his girlfriend on 2 January 2022, when he could not get hold of her over the phone. At the time the deceased was with her family and cousin in town. The deceased died of multiple gun wounds. The suspect also shot at the cousin who managed to escape.
The suspect was arrested and appeared in court on 7 January 2022. He is charged with the murder of his girlfriend and attempted murder of the victim’s cousin. He (suspect) is detained at the Malmesbury prison where he is awaiting his bail application scheduled for 5 April 2022.
The IPID investigation is continuing.
