The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) is investigating an inquest after a man was allegedly shot and killed on the scene by the Police.
It is alleged that on Saturday 08 August 2015 in the morning around 06:45, two police officers stationed at Somerset Police Station were patrolling in Centenary Drive Somerset West Cape Town. The two policemen spotted a suspicious grey VW Polo with four male occupants inside the car. The car sped off once the occupants noticed two officers, who then chased the car. It is alleged that the car stopped and all occupants ran and spread themselves around while the one occupant pointed a fire-arm at the police and the Police shot at him with the help of a Security Guard who allegedly fired two shot at a man with the fire-arm. One of the occupants got injured while the other one died on the scene. The other two occupants fled the scene and it is allegedly reported that the car which was driven by the four men was stolen a day before the day of the incident.
