IPID is Investigating Death as a Result of Police Action

Section 28 1 (b) attended at Witpoort. It is alleged that the deceased person who is a traditional healer and a Prophet was assaulting his patient who was staying with him for healing purposes. The woman was screaming for help and a community member called the police for assistance.

On arrival the deceased fought with everyone and resisting arrest. The police then started shooting with rubber bullets to overpower him so as to rescue the woman patient whom they thought was inside the house. The deceased fell down in the process and some member of the community noticed that the woman they wanted to rescue from the deceased was already burnt beyond recognition.

She was thrown in a big fire with a tyre on her neck by the deceased. A case of murder will be opened against the deceased. And another case of murder to be opened against the police. Post mortem still to be attended to confirm the cause of death. It Is still suspected that he might have died of rubber bullets.
