IPID investigating the death of 21 year old woman in Alexandra, Gauteng
The Independent Police Investigative Directorate is investigating the death of 21 year old Aphiwe Zweni allegedly due to assault by policemen in Alexandra, Gauteng. The alleged assault took place on 09 July 2014 and the victim passed away on 11 July 2014.
It is alleged that on 09 July 2014 the deceased was assaulted by a group of policemen who had arrested her husband. Apparently they wanted the deceased to point out her place of residence as well her husband’s friends.
After the policemen left, the deceased had difficulty walking. She was taken to Alexandra Clinic where she died on 11 July 2014.
The IPID was notified of the death and we sent an investigator to start an investigation.
A post mortem is scheduled to take place on 14 July 2014. An identity parade will be held as soon as possible.
No arrest has been made. The investigation continues.
