IPID investigating alleged torture and murder of suspect in Chamdor, Gauteng

The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) is investigating the alleged torture and murder of 28 year old Lebogang Legodi from Mabopane, Tshwane. The incident occurred around 20:00 on 12 September 2012.

It is alleged that the deceased was picked up at his parent’s home in Garankuwa by members of the SAPS on 12 September 2012 in the afternoon. It is alleged that he was taken to Chamdor SAPS in the West Rand where he was tortured. He was then taken to Leratong Hospital in an unmarked vehicle but was not admitted due to the fact that he was already dead. Apparently the police tried to have the post mortem done before the family became aware of the death.

The post mortem will be held on 18 September 2012.

The investigation continues. No arrests have been made.

Issued by the Independent Police Investigative Directorate.
