IPID investigates a Senior Police Officer for an attempted murder of an alleged robber.

The independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) is investigating a case of attempted murder against a Lieutenant Colonel based at Randfontein Detectives.

It is alleged that in the early hours of this morning Friday 05 August 2016, the member was travelling along R41 between Azadville and Rietvallei in his own car when he allegedly found a road blocked with rocks.

The member apparently stopped to investigate after he called his Colleague to come to the place. The officer spotted a person in the bush nearby after he heard some noise coming from there and at the same time he alleged to have noticed an object in the alleged person’s hand and he then discharged his weapon towards the person and he shot him on the head.

A toy gun was later found next to the victim and he was taken to the hospital with head injuries.

The victim is unknown at this stage and IPID is investigating a case of attempted murder. No arrests have been made at this stage.
