IPID investigates an off-duty police officer for a murder of his wife
The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) in Mpumalanga has arrested a police officer for a Murder of his Wife and Attempted Murder of his Wife’s Friend.
The incident is alleged to have happened in Barberton at a Tavern in the early morning of Tuesday 03 October 2023, where they were attending a birthday celebration. It alleged that an argument ensued between the couple and a police officer Constable Lucky Sandlile Maduna (38) slapped his Wife a 28-year-old Ms Nonkululeko Mtshweni with an open hand on the face and she fell down. While still down he hit her on the face with a beer bottle that he had in his hand. It is further alleged that he then went to the car and retuned with a whiskey bottle and continued assaulting her with the said bottle until it broke and he stabbed her on the neck rendering her motionless.
A Friend of the Wife Ms Veronica Sithole attempted to intervene and she was also allegedly so severely stabbed on the face and neck. She was airlifted to the Rob Ferreira Hospital in a critical condition while the Wife was declared dead at the scene.
The member was arrested by the South African Police at the scene appeared in court the following day and the case has been remanded to the 11 October 2023 for appointment of Attorney and formal bail application
