IPID investigates death as a result of police action
The IPID is investigating as case of death as a result of police action, this is after an innocent bystander was shot and declared dead on the scene by the paramedics. It is alleged that on the 14th of July 2020 at about 11:05 Warrant Officer Rigardo Peach spotted a suspicious vehicle with 4 occupants driving along Miller Street Johannesburg and he called for JMPD back up.
As alleged, the officers tried to stop the vehicle but instead the suspects sped off leading to law enforcements officers firing a warning shot. It is alleged that the occupants of the vehicle started firing shot at the police and that they parked their car and ran on foot with Warrant officer chasing after one suspect while the other two suspects were being chased by other JMPD officers.
It is said shooting between the suspects and the officers ensued, resulting to an innocent bystander being hit on his throat. It is yet unclear if the deceased was shot by the Police or the suspects. Investigations are ongoing and all relevant parties will be contacted as part of investigations. The name of the deceased is not provided and will be known as investigations continues.
