IPID Investigates an Attempted Murder Case: Tsakane, Gauteng

Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) is investigating an attempted murder case. The incident allegedly took place on 29 December 2021 around 21:55 at Cnr Malan Dela & Ndabezitha Street, Engen garage, Tsakane. IPID unfortunately did not attend the scene.

It is alleged that the victim was meant to meet up with his friend at an Engen garage but when he got there the friend was nowhere to be found and he then went back home to wait for his friend to call him which he did.

The victim then proceeded to the place where his friend said he was along with his other friends. When the victim got to the said location he parked next to a Toyota Rav 4 with tinted windows, then two men came out of the vehicle with firearms and cocked them. It was when a third man came out of the Toyota Rav 4 coming towards the victim’s car that he panicked and immediately reversed his vehicle and gun shots were fired at him. The victim immediately changed gears from reverse to one and drove towards the men shooting him.

Other two white males with riffles also started shooting at the victim and he bumped into another vehicle. This is when the victim was instructed to get out of his vehicle, he raised his hand to alert them that he was injured and is surrendering. The five men who were shooting at the victim were two African males and three White males and they searched the victim’s car, while one male kept kicking him stating that they want their vehicles and instructed the victim to crawl towards his vehicle and sit against it. One of the men asked him for his cellphone pin while the two African men were picking up spent cartridges and told the victim that they are the police.

The victim stated that he called bystanders to call the Tsakane police, and an ambulance arrived, he further stated that the males called another guy from their vehicle who was handcuffed on his legs only to realize it was his friend that he had come to meet. The victim was then taken to Pholosong hospital by the ambulance and an attempted murder case was opened by the Tsakalane police who attended the crime scene.

CAP security had accompanied the police officers to trace the suspect and the members who were involved informed Tsakane police who attended the crime scene that they came to Tsakane in an attempt to track down a suspect for a Parkview case and that suspect was the victim who was shot at by the five men.
