IPID has arrested a police officer who raped a young girl
The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) has this afternoon arrested a police officer for Statutory Rape. The victim was allegedly 8 years old when this started and it was brought to the attention of IPID on Monday the 17th of August 2020.
As mandated by the IPID Act Section 28 (1)(d) to investigate rape by a police officer, whether the police officer is on duty or off duty, IPID investigated this incident.
The Directorate as committed two weeks ago that this incident is receiving the highest priority, it was allocated to a Principal Investigator who swiftly completed the investigation with recommendations to have the officer arrested, the officer was indeed arrested today and will appear in court on the 28 August 2020 at the Uitenhage Magistrates Court on a charge of statutory rape.
This office condemns with strongest possible terms gender based violence and femicide, especially by officials entrusted with the responsibility of enforcing the laws of the land.
