The IPID has arrested five (5) policemen for sexual assault, assault GBH and house robbery – Durban, KwaZulu-Natal
The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) in Durban arrested six policemen from Protection Security Services (PSS) in Malvern Area last night. Five (5) of the policemen were arrested at Cavendish SAPS where they are based, the sixth one handed himself over to the IPID this morning. The policemen consist of one Warrant Officer and five Constables.
It is alleged that the suspects sexually assaulted one victim by forcing a broken broomstick up the victim’s anus. The victim was also assaulted severely and sustained multiple injuries.
It is further alleged that the suspects, acting in concert with civilians, robbed people in their homes and planted drugs at to force them to pay them and avoid being arrested. Some of the victims were robbed of substantial sums of money.
One of the suspects was found with dagga, other drugs and ammunition and a pellet gun. He will face additional charges of illegal possession of drugs and illegal possession of ammunition.
All the suspects will appear at the Durban Magistrate's Court on 06 July 2012 (today). Further arrests are expected.
