IPID has arrested a constable for rape, Roodepan Northern Cape- Roodepan CAS 417/09/2012

The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) has arrested a 36 year old Constable attached to Kimberley SAPS for raping a 16 year old female in Roodepan. The arrest was made on 24 September 2012.

It is alleged that on 24 September 2012 at about 16:00, the suspect took the victim from her home and drove with her to a secluded place in Lerato Park informal settlement. The suspect was allegedly raped in the bush outside. After the alleged rape, the victim was dropped off near her home.

The suspect was traced and located at his workplace; he was arrested and detained at Galeshewe SAPS. The victim was taken to the hospital for medical attention where the doctor confirmed sexual penetration.

The suspect was arrested on charges of rape and appeared at Kimberley Magistrates Court on 25 September 2012. The matter has been postponed for 7 days for further investigation. The suspect is still in custody.
