IPID to conduct a preliminary investigation into Manenberg shooting of two men
The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) will conduct a preliminary investigation into the shooting of two men in their twenties in Manenberg, Cape Town on 20 June 2019. IPID received a report from the South African Police Service (SAPS) alleging that police responded to a gang related issue and on arrival at the scene, gangsters fired at the police and police returned fire and in the cross fire, two people were injured. It is unknown who shot them. Police allege the two people who were shot were part of the group that attacked the police.
The IPID will conduct a preliminary investigation to determine if the police are responsible for the shooting of the men. If that is the case, then the IPID will take over the investigation and investigate it until it is concluded.
