IPID arrests four Boksburg SAPS members for assault

IPID, today (1 February 2023) arrested four members of the Boksburg North Visible Policing for the assault and torture of a foreign national in Boksburg North on 9 January 2023.

The victim together with his friends were approached by the police officers who demanded to see their Identity Documentation. When the victim could not produce an original copy of the required documentation, he was taken to the police station where he was allegedly assaulted and tortured by the officers.

The victim was taken to hospital for medical attention where he was in a coma for nine days. The four officers, a Sergeant and three Constables face charges of Assault (GBH) and Defeating the ends of Justice.

The four officers were arrested at their place of work today, 1st February 2023 and will be detained at the Boksburg Police Station. They will appear before the Boksburg Magistrate Court tomorrow.
