IPID arrested a Police Constable on a charge of rape
The independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) has arrested a police Officer aged 38 for rape in Petsana Reitz, Free state Province.
It is alleged that on Tuesday 09 August 2016, a 46 year old female victim was offered a lift to and from the local police station by a police Constable based at Reitz visible policing unit. She was taken to an open space outside Petsana and raped her in the back of the police patrol van.
The police officer is alleged to have stopped the van in an open field and ordered the victim to get to the back of the patrol van, ordered her to undress and raped her. After the rape he dropped her off at her home and left.
The victim then went back to the police station to report the rape. The case was then reported to IPID by SAPS. The suspect was arrested and charged with rape.
