Independent Police Investigative Directorate is Investigating a Case of Death ss A- Result of Police Action

Independent Police Investigative Directorate is investigating a case of death as a result of police action. It is alleged that two Sergeant officers were conducting foot patrol near Maseru border bridge when they saw four males crossing the border illegally. It is alleged that the officers approached them (the suspects) while doing so, two of the male suspects took out weapons (the Pangas) and a knife. It is alleged that the one with the knife charged towards the officers who then started to retreat. It is alleged that one of the officers tripped and fell on the ground, one of the suspects then attempted to stab him. His colleague then fired a shot from behind the suspect and he then died.

The 23-year-old deceased, a Lesotho national died on the scene while the three others ran away. IPID is investigating the matter. Post-mortem will be conducted on Tuesday 10th August 2021 and ballistic test will be carried out as well as part of the investigations.
