Independent Police Investigative Directorate is Investigating the Case of Death as A- Result of Police Action

Independent Police Investigative Directorate is investigating a case of Death as a result of police action after a 42-year-old man was allegedly forced to drink a bottle full of alcohol by the police.

It is alleged that on 27 July 2021 at around 13pm, a man was consuming alcohol in a public area. It is alleged that the police arrived and he ran away; he was then caught and taken into an official police minibus.

It is alleged that the police officers then forced him to drink a whole bottle of Old Brown Sherry that he was in possession of at the time of his arrest. It is further alleged that the deceased suspect was released by the police and he went to buy more alcohol which he did not drink afterwards. He went to sit with his friends, slept and never woke up. The 42-year-old was declared dead. IPID took over and the case is still under investigations.
