Independent Police Investigative Directorate Arrested a Police Officer on Assault Charges (Domestic Violance)

 Independent Police Investigative Directorate has today the 19th of August 2021 at about 15:30pm arrested a male Police officer on allegations related to Domestic violence. It is alleged that the Police officer was with his girlfriend when they (the couple) had an argument in the early hours of the 25th of August 2021.

It is alleged that the 50-year-old suspect police officer went to fetch a fork spade and hit his 36-year-old girlfriend several times on the head; the victim suffered multiple injuries as a result of the incident.

The Executive Director of the Independent Police Investigative Directorate Mrs Dikeledi Ntlatseng as someone who promised to prioritise cases of domestic violence and justice towards the victims of Domestic violence, sanctioned an immediate attention to the case. The case was immediately allocated to an investigator who conducted an intensive investigation which resulted in the suspect being detained in custody this afternoon.

The suspect is facing a case of Assault with intent to cause Grievous bodily harm read with Section 1 of Domestic Violence Act 116/1998. The accused police officer will appear in court on 21 August 2021 at Thembalethu Magistrate Court, George
