The ICD is Investigating a Shooting Incident in Mondlo - KwaZulu - Natal
The ICD is investigating a shooting of a female by 39 year old Constable MI Masondo, who was on duty at Mondlo Police Station on 23 March 2012.
It is alleged that on 23 March 2012 at about 01:30am, Constable Masondo deserted his post and went to the house of Makhosi Buthelezi who is a cleaner at the Mondlo Police Station. Constable Masondo apparently called the police station and reported that he and Ms Buthelezi were under attack by unknown assailants.
The SAPS members from the charge office rushed to the crime scene and upon arrival they were shown the body of Makhosi Buthelezi lying in the garden, allegedly shot by the unknown assailants.
Constable Masondo apparently started picking up the cartridges with the intention of throwing them away. When asked to explain his action he allegedly told his colleagues that he would be in trouble because he had fired many shots.
The office of the ICD was informed after suspicions arose from the actions of Constable Masondo.
After the members were told that the ICD wanted to interview them, Constable Masondo booked out on patrol alone with a state motor vehicle and went to his house where he committed suicide with his private firearm.
