ICD Detains SAPS Constable for Defeating the Ends of Justice: Warrenton – Northern Cape
The Independent Complaints Directorate (ICD) has arrested a 39 year old police constable on a charge of defeating the ends of justice. The suspect member, Constable David Dikoko is stationed at SAPS Warrenton in the Northern Cape.
Constable Dikoko’s arrest follows a search/seizure operation conducted by the police in the Warrenton area. It is alleged that during the operation, he confiscated dagga found in the possession of a suspect at a local tavern. It is alleged that the officer detained the suspect at the Warrenton police cells, but failed to process the exhibit in the relevant file (SAP 13).
The ICD conducted an independent investigation which revealed that the exhibit is not in the SAP 13 and cannot be traced from the suspect (SAPS member). The ICD arrested the officer following consultation with the Senior Public Prosecutor (SPP). He will face a charge of defeating the ends of justice.
Constable Dikoko appeared in the Warrenton Magistrates court on 07 November 2011. He was released on a bail of R300-00. The matter has been postponed to 18 November 2011 in the same court at Warrenton.
Issued by the Independent Complaints Directorate.
