Four accused Police officers set to appear in Joburg High Court

The four police officers, Sergeant Kubheka, Constable Mtshali, Constable Kunene and Constable Gumede accused of beating to death a 49 year old man and assaulting other two people whilst in police custody on the 10 March 2019 in Katlehong North will be appearing in the Johannesburg High Court from Monday the 05 October 2020 to 23 October 2020.

It is alleged that the police arrested an allegedly drunk driver and other two people who were passengers in the vehicle and car followed them to the police station. It is further alleged that the victims were arrested for interfering with police duties.

The trio was taken to Vosloorus hospital for blood tests. As alleged, the police noticed that one of the victims was lying strangely while trying to draw their blood.

Theres also allegations that the assault continued and police officers kicked, beaten and even poured water on the victim’s faces,

IPID investigated this matter, collated the necessary evidence and prepared a comprehensive report to both SAPS with recommendations and to NPA for criminal charges to be instituted against the accused police officers.

The four accused are currently out on bail of R5000 each.
