A Former Police Sergeant has been sentenced to life imprisonment for Murder, Attempted Murder and Arson.

The independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) in Gauteng has secured a conviction for Murder, Arson and Attempted Murder charges at the North Gauteng High Court Yesterday the 06th September 2023.

The North Gauteng High Court has sentenced a 42-year-old former Sergeant Mautla Silas Maluleke formerly attached to Rietgat police station in Soshanguve as follows:

       1. Count 1. Murder – Life imprisonment.
       2. Count 2. & 3. 2 X Attempted Murder – 10 years’ imprisonment each.
       3. Count 4. Arson – 12 years’ imprisonment.

The Accused committed the offences in the first week of June 2021 when he went to the house of his ex- Girlfriend a Constable Rhofiwa Munyai where he started shooting randomly in the house injuring her, her Six-year-old son and killing her 82-year-old Mother, Tshavhungwe Munyai. He then set the house on fire before escaping until he got arrested a week later and denied bail until his conviction and sentence yesterday.
