A former Police Sergeant has been convicted of murder, arson and 2 counts of attempted murder at the North Gauteng this afternoon.

The independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) in Gauteng has been investigating Murder, Arson and Attempted Murder charges against a former police Sergeant attached to Rietgat police station in Soshanguve in the Gauteng Province.

A 42-year-old Sergeant Mautla Silas Maluleke went to the house of his ex- Girlfriend a Constable Rhofiwa Munyai. He started shooting randomly in the house injuring her, her Six-year-old son and killing her 82-year-old Mother, Tshavhungwe Munyai. He then set the house on fire before escaping.

Maluleke was arrested a week later by IPID appeared in court and denied bail. He remained in custody until this morning when he was convicted of Murder, Arson and 2X counts of Attempted Murder at the Gauteng North High Court.

The case has been postponed to the 28 August 2023 at the same Pretoria High Court.

The Executive Director of IPID Ms Dikeledi Ntlatseng has expressed appreciation to all IPID Investigators that were involved in the investigation of the matter.
