A former police constable has been convicted of premeditated murder of his girlfriend
The independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) in Gauteng has been investigating a Murder case which has culminated in a conviction on 26 April 2023 at the Protea Magistrates court, Soweto.
A 25-year-old Constable Silas Masemola who was attached to Crime Intelligence Johannesburg was convicted of premeditated murder of his 31-year-old Girlfriend Ms Puleng Khumalo. The incident happened on 04 April 2022 at 17:00 in Protea Ext 39 in Soweto.
The member shot and killed his Girlfriend who was in the bathroom. He however, told the police that the Deceased shot herself using his service pistol. Upon investigation it was established that the Deceased could not have shot herself and the member was placed under arrest by IPID.
Constable Masemola has since been dismissed as result of recommendations from IPID.
The sentencing will be at the Protea Magistrates Court on 09 May 2023.
