Female constable arrested for attempted murder – Rawsonville, Western Cape

The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) has arrested a 33 year old female Constable for attempted murder. The arrest follows a shooting incident which occurred at Rawsonville SAPS. Both the suspect and the victim are based at the same station.

It is alleged that on Wednesday 29 August 2012 at Rawsonville Police Station, a married female SAPS member from Social Crime Prevention booked out a firearm for a shooting exercise. It is further alleged that she fired two shots at the victim, Constable Thyse, and he was hit on his upper body. Apparently another police official went out and disarmed the suspect when he heard the gunshots – it is alleged that the suspect wanted to continue shooting the victim.

It is alleged that at some point the suspect and the victim were in a romantic relationship; however, the reason for the shooting is unknown at this stage.

The suspect was arrested and was detained at Worcester SAPS – an attempted murder case docket was opened. The victim was admitted to hospital in a critical condition.
The suspect will appear at Worcester Magistrates Court on 31 August 2012 on charges of murder.
