On Duty Police Official shoots an alleged attacker dead at D26 Riemvasmaak, Caledon
IPID confirms that it received a report of a death as a result of police action that took place on Saturday, 24 August 2019 at around 14:05 at D26 Riemvasmaak, Caledon. It is alleged three police officials were on duty serving an interdict and during the process an adult male tried to attack the on duty police official by means of a knife.
The police official who was about to be stabbed used his service pistol to shoot the adult male on his lower body. The adult male was taken to Caledon day hospital where he passed on in hospital. It is further alleged that the deceased’s brother was injured on his hand apparently by the same bullet. An inquest case docket was opened and IPID is investigating the matter. Nobody is arrested. Investigation is continuing.
