Discharge of an official firearm case
IPID is investigating the circumstances that led to a Pretoria based officer to discharge his official firearm in the Northern Cape after being involved in a car accident on 30 December 2022.
It is alleged that the officer from Pretoria was involved in a minor car accident in Windsorton, in the Northern Cape on 30 December 2022. He allegedly fired shots towards the direction of the occupants of the other vehicle that was also involved in the accident and thereafter fled the scene. Fortunately, no one was injured.
The officer was arrested by the Kimberley Flying Squad and taken back to Windsorton where he was arrested. The officer is expected to appear in court on Tuesday, 3 January 2023 in Windsorton.
IPID will pronounce on the outcome once the investigation is complete.
