Constable appears in court for rape - Thabong, Free State
A 38 year old Constable has appeared at the Welkom District Court on 27 February facing a charge of rape. The suspect is based at Thabong SAPS.
It is alleged that on 23 February 2013, the 42 year old victim went to visit her sister and they had a quarrel which ended up in a fight. It is alleged that the victim was assaulted by her sister and she was chased out of the yard. The police were called by the sister and a complaint was attended to by the suspect and his crew.
The victim was found by the police at her place of residence. It is alleged that the victim, who was wearing tights, was handcuffed and put into the police van. After driving around with her, the vehicle stopped in an open field and the victim was ordered to get out. The suspect Constable then raped the victim outside the police van.
After the rape was reported to the police, the suspect was arrested. The IPID has taken over the investigation. The suspect appeared in court on 27 February 2013 and he was released on R1500 bail. The case has been remanded to 27 March 2013. The investigation continues.
