A 45 year old Police Officer arrested for rape in custody

The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) has arrested a 45 year old police officer stationed at Linden Police Station for allegedly raping a 25 year old detainee.

It is alleged that there 25 year old woman was arrested for fraud and detained alone in the police cells. It is alleged that at around 2am of 28t of June 2015, a police officer went to her cell and started raping her. In the morning, the victim managed to explain to one of the police officers about the rape and she was quickly escorted to the clinic for medication and to open a case of rape.

The suspect was arrested; he appeared at Randburg Magistrate Court for the alleged rape case. He appeared on 30 June 2015 for bail application which consequently failed and he was remanded in custody for a formal bail application on 07 July 2015.

Investigation continues.
