31 year old constable convicted on multiple charges of rape, robbery and kidnapping to appear in court for sentencing

On Thursday, 12 December 2013, a 31 year old police constable Mokolo Karpos Molekwa will appear at Johannesburg High Court for sentencing following his convictions on multiple charges of rape, Robbery and Kidnapping. He committed these criminal offences between 2011 and 2012 around Gauteng areas such Tembisa, Ivory Park, Olifansfontein, and Randburg.

The IPID is investigating 5 other similar cases allegedly committed by the officer around Limpopo and Pretoria areas. Molekwa was stationed at Randburg Police Station. The convicted officer remained in custody since his arrest and for the duration of trial after his bid to obtain bail was successfully opposed by the state on three different occasions.

The IPID hopes that the successful investigation and prosecution of these cases will deter others in the police force and society in general from continuing to commit crime. IPID pride itself in the commitment of its investigators in delivering on the mandate of the organisation with the spirit fairness, objectivity and transparency.
